Umrah is simpler than it looks from the outside. The rites themselves take only a few hours; most of your trip is prayer, rest, and ziyarat (visits) in the two holy cities.

1. Before you go: secure your visa (Umrah visa or tourist e-visa, depending on your passport), confirm your hotel bookings in writing, and book Rawdah entry in Madinah through the Nusuk app as soon as your dates are set — slots fill quickly.
2. Ihram: enter the state of ihram at the miqat with your intention made. From there, the journey itself becomes worship.
3. Tawaf: seven circuits around the Kaaba, beginning at the Black Stone corner.
4. Sa'i: seven lengths between Safa and Marwah, remembering Hajar's search for water — then the haircut that completes Umrah.
5. Madinah: pray in Masjid an-Nabawi, give salam at the Prophet's chamber ﷺ, visit Quba, Uhud, and the Trench — and the Garden of Salman Al-Farsi, a working date-palm grove most tour groups skip.
6. Getting between the cities: the Haramain high-speed train covers Madinah–Makkah in about two and a half hours at 300 km/h, and is far kinder than a long coach ride.

For most American pilgrims, a proper Umrah lands somewhere between $2,500 and $4,000 per person, depending on whether you travel in peak season or the quieter months. Where you fall in that range comes down to a few choices:

• Flights are the biggest variable — departure city, season (Ramadan and school holidays spike), and whether you fly into Jeddah or Madinah.
• Hotels are priced by distance. A room a short walk from the Haram costs more per night and saves you hours and taxi fares every single day.
• Room sharing matters: quad-share rooms bring the per-person price down sharply, which is why traveling as a family or group helps.
• Everything else — visa, transfers, ziyarat tours, food — is smaller, but it's exactly where vague quotes hide surprises.

That cost, all due at once, is the wall most first-time pilgrims hit. It's the problem Waseela was founded to solve — and why we insist on prices you can see in full, in writing, before anything is owed.

Every year, pilgrims lose savings to sellers who were never going to deliver the journey they promised. Protect yourself:

• Too-good prices: a package far below the $2,500–$4,000 range usually means distant hotels, hidden fees, or no package at all.
• No written itinerary: if you can't get hotel names, flight details, and a full price in writing before paying, walk away.
• Cash-only pressure: demands for wire transfers, gift cards, or full payment immediately are classic warning signs. Legitimate sellers take cards and give receipts.
• Vague hotel claims: "five minutes from the Haram" should mean a named hotel you can check on a map — ask for it.
• Check registration: in Washington State, travel sellers must register as a Seller of Travel. Ask any seller — including us — for their registration status.

If an offer feels wrong, it usually is. Forward it to us before you pay anyone — we'd rather talk you out of a bad deal than see a pilgrim's savings lost.

If your route home passes through Istanbul — as most Turkish Airlines routes from Jeddah and Madinah do — a stopover of even a single night is one of the great bargains in travel.

Stay in Sultanahmet and you can walk between the Blue Mosque, glowing against the night sky, and the Hagia Sophia — fifteen centuries of history under one great dome, golden mosaics, and calligraphy that humbles you. The Hippodrome, the Grand Bazaar, and ferries on the Bosphorus fill the hours around them.
